Must Know Fitness Tips

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
by Mike Walker

There are programs that assist you in burning fat or building muscle to get what you desire but not much that gives you information on how to keep your results. Matters need to be taken in your own hands to keep those results. Daily activities need to be put in place and its simple things like drinking water and eating foods good for your health.

1. Drink plenty of water, a good approach to drinking more water is to drink water when you wake up in the morning and all through the day. Required during and after exercising. Drink a minimum 64 ounces of water daily or more. Thirst often acts as hunger meaning that the body signals your brain that you’re hungry when you are actually not, you’re just really thirsty.

2. Decrease intake on teas and coffee, back off of fizzy drinks.

3. Take in a piece of fruit or more daily, don’t drink fruit juice that’s NOT 100% juice it is difficult for your body to digest and has plenty of calories.

4. Unless you are training really hard watch out for sports drinks. A bottle of that could replace all the calories you just burned in your exercise. Grab a bottle of water instead.

5. Make sure you get your breakfast; studies have shown that people who eat breakfast lose more body fat weight than those who do not. You cannot achieve your goals and exercise efficiently without eating properly.

6. Late night snacks are no good, try not to eat past 9 o’clock. It takes as long as 3 hours just for your body to digest food. When sleeping and your food are not fully digested it sits there, for men it takes a lot longer to digest, for women it slows way down slower than men.

7. Eat your greens! An essential part to your health and staying fit is to get vegetables in your system, helps with the calorie burning process.

8. Sleep sleep sleep, a night’s sleep is great and is one of the best things you can do to staying fit. Sleeping burns fat and builds muscle, when working out you break down muscle tissues and technically you build most of your muscle when you sleep.

9. Have an intake of all food groups daily

10. Keep your routine don’t break it! Number one problem people have is they do a great job with there progress or keeping there results but they miss one workout then two then it’s broken. Turn it into a habit.

It’s Not Hard To Get A Home Gym

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009
by Mark

Contrary to what most people may think, having your own gym is not really all that hard to achieve, nor is it that expensive. So long as you know what exactly you want, and shop withing your means, setting up their own home gym is something that’s relatively easy to do. So let’s explore the following tips in setting up your own home gym.

First, you need to determine which parts of your body you are keen to tone or work out. Clarify you needs. Ask yourself what your purpose is for working out”is it to tone? To lose weight, or are you training for a marathon? Ask yourself why you need the instact access of a home gym, and find out your needs from there. Once you know what your goals are, it is easy to determine the various equipment that you’ll need.

When still not quite sure what to get, the first rule of thumb, is to get something simple. By simple, we mean work-out machines that are not only practical, but are relatively affordable. While it’s easy to fall in love with some of the newer machines and everything they have to offer, these new additions might not be exactly what you need. Start with the basics, you can never go wrong from there.

After you have determined your fitness goals, and where get your different machines, you should then look for a place to put them. An ideal workout room should be well ventilated, and have good airconditioning. Not only will this make for a more comfortable workout, but you won’t reek as much as well!

If you’re considering on getting a treadmill as part of your home gym collection, you should opt to get a motorized one. You should never skimp and buy the cheapest treadmill, as they can lead to a lot of accidents. Not only is this dangerous, but an injury can severely dampen your momentum. That’s something you don’t want, so make sure that you buy a good treamill to avoid any regrets.

One way to save money in buying your machines, is getting them second-hand. They may be used, but most machines are built to last. While you should always check for damages, you’ll be amazed how much most second hand equipment have been kept in good condition.

6-Pack Abs: General George Patton’s Bodybuilding Quotes

Monday, March 16th, 2009
by MaxBurnFitness

It might seems strange that building a great set of six-pack abs can be motivated by a World War II General. However, upon closer inspection George Patton was a decorated war hero who led thousands of American troops to victory against overwhelming odds, and his words can help us overcome our training challenges. The following Patton bodybuilding quotes are provided with comments for context.

“You’re never beaten until you admit it.” Actions are the result of words which, in turn, are the result of our thoughts. Henry Ford put it in a slightly different context, “if you think your can do something or can’t do it…you’re right!” The tougher workouts test our resolve to do we promised ourselves. A man is only as good as his word. These bodybuilding quotes begs the question “are you as good as your word”?

“Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.” Everything that we really hold valuable comes at some sort of sacrifice or price. The goal of a fit body requires such sacrifices but the reward comes in the numbers on the scale or the percent lean body mass calculation each week. Your victory will be much sweeter if you do the right thing.

“Better to fight for something than live for nothing.” Take an honest look at yourself. Are you truly willing to fight for a physically fit body and mind or do you just talk a good game? By looking inward you must make the conviction that you are not like those Big Mac eating people who stand only for what they want and the easy way to get it. A ripped set of six-pack abs requires a commitment and comes at a cost. We take Gen. Patton’s advice that our actions must reflect what we really stand for.

“If a man does his best, what else is there?” The question is “are you really doing your best”? Have you developed a solid plan to burn the calories and keep the caloric balance negative or are you flying by the seat of your pants (which may be getting bigger) and hoping that things work out. Taking this challenge seriously is getting real with yourself and making the commitment to do whatever it takes to reach your goals.

“Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.” The true test of our character and resolve is not how high your fly when things are going well. Rather, it is how you work through the tough times, the times when you want to give up, that provide the insight as to who you really are. In freezing temperatures Gen. Patton was able to redirect his troops to successfully engage the enemy in the Battle of the Bulge. Not because it was easy but because it had to be done regardless of hardship.

Everybody wants a great set of ripped abs, but few are willing to do everything it takes to get them. If you are one of them, the words of General George Patton should inspire you to do what it takes to win the war and savor the victory which will be the reflection of your six-pack abs staring back at you in the mirror. Gen. Patton’s words create a bridge from the military to the fitness battlefield.

Some Tips For Setting Up Your Home Gym

Monday, March 9th, 2009
by Mark

If you’re one of those people who routinely work out, then you have probably consider how hard it may be to set up your own home gym. Which is why in thise article, we’ll talk about the specifics of getting your own home gym.

One of the first things you should consider in getting a home gym are the dimensions of each equipment. A home gym should be both functional, practical, but still easy to store. Not only do more compact equipment take up less space, but it is also a lot easier to assemble.

The next thing you should do is find a space or room in your house to put your home gym. While it would be nice to have a dedicated room for working out, most people just don’t have that much free space. So it’s better to set it up in a multi-functional room, such as a rec room or guest room.

You should also choose a multi-purpose machine, one that offers several workout stations. That way, you only need one machine to work out several parts of your body. It may be pricier than your single-purpose machine, but you should take into account that you are getting the value of several machines as well, eleminating the need of having to purchase additional equipment once you advance in your workout. So choosing this option will save you a lot of money.

If you have a smaller home, you should choose gym equipments that collapse or fold. You don’t want to have an ugly, large treadmill taking up the middle of the room, where everyone can see it. Not only is it not aesthetically pleasing, but it doesn’t hold much ergonomic sense.

Lastly, you don’t need to buy everything all at once. Not only is this more expensive, but you really only need a few basics when you’re starting out.

Building muscle demands more than junk food

Friday, February 27th, 2009
by Jon Cardozo

You’re probably tired of hearing this, but it never hurts to repeat an important concept. If you’re serious about building large amounts of muscle, you need to increase your calories in order to give the body the necessary raw materials.

It’s actually pretty simple when you think about it. If you want to remain at your current weight, then you simply need to try to eat the same number of calories that you burn on any given day. There are many great calculators on the Internet that can help you determine how many calories you need.

Having said that, not just any calories will do. Don’t think you can eat whatever you want and still gain large amounts of muscle. Unfortunately, you’ll have to be more selective in your nutritional choices and may even have to give up some of your favorite foods.

You can’t expect to build muscle if your diet consists primarily of fast foods like chips, French fries, and cookies. Remember that you need a significant amount of protein to build your muscle, as well as carbohydrates and healthy fats.

You have probably heard of the dangers of hydrogenated oils, or Trans fats. Well, these won’t help you build muscle at all, and over time they actually increase your chances of heart disease. Sure, you can probably get away with a little bit, but you want to be careful. You want to be healthy and you’re also trying to build muscle, so treat yourself like a world class athlete.

Foods high in refined sugar will also hamper your muscle building efforts. Excess sugar only has three possible outcomes in your body: it is burned immediately as fuel, it is stored as glycogen in the liver and the muscles, or it is converted to fat.

So, all that wonderful ice cream and candy bars can lead to extra fat whether you like it or not. Whatever you don’t burn off can become fat, and if you eat excessive amounts you probably won’t burn it all off.

You’ve probably heard that moderation is key, and it’s unlikely that you will completely give up your favorite foods. However, try to focus on good foods like lean proteins and fruits and vegetables. Think of it as a bank account. The more deposits you make (or the more good food that you eat), the more likely is it you can get away with a withdrawal every once in awhile.

Side Effects Of Anabolic Steroids On Athletes

Monday, February 23rd, 2009
by John Burks

The sporting industry is a million dollar industry, and many athletes go to great lengths to enhance their performance in order to give their best in the field. This is one reason why the intake of steroid has risen in recent times, and why the testing prior to an event includes testing for drug and steroid abuse. This protects athletes from using unfair means to increase their performance.

One performance boosting drug that is very popularly used is known as “Anabolic Steroids,” and some familiar brand names for this incorporate Dianabol, Deca Durabolin, and Sustanon.

Anabolic steroids actually work in a similar way as androgenic hormones like testosterone do. as our hormones give us energy and strength, these thus assist weight gain, muscle building, swiftness, and endurance in the sports ground. These types of drugs are very commonly used in sports including weight lifting and field events. Despite their popularity, these are very contentious drugs and scientists are not sure of whether or not they really help boost performance.

Conversely, athletes that consume these swear by them and insist that their increased performance is payable to the steroid use.

One of the reasons behind the dissimilarity in these opinions is the “placebo effect”. As athletes think that the drug will assist them in recuperating their performance, they put in more effort into their game and consequently do better. one more reason is that the testing is carried out by using much lower amounts of drugs as compared to what is normally consumed by athletes.

These steroids work by means of testosterone which is the hormone that assists male human beings grow through their teenage years and adolescence stages. Testosterone brings about changes in sexual characteristics caused by the androgenic properties, which includes but is not limited to hair growth, penile growth, increased violence, and secondary characteristics like growth in muscle density, growth of bones, etc which is caused by the anabolic properties of testosterone.

Anabolic steroids imitate these changes while trying to bring down the androgenic effects and having just the anabolic properties play a role (thus the name), but this is not entirely possible and this causes harmful side-effects in the athletes who use these steroids.

Due to the increase in the quantity of testosterone, the most common adverse effect in males is infertility where the body stops producing testosterone on its own to compensate for the amount being consumed through the drugs. These drugs will as well cause liver damage, in increase in cholesterol level, and enlargement of breast tissue in males.

An additional side effect of this is increase in fierceness. In women, the testosterone causes increase in facial hair, changes in the menstrual cycle, and deepening of the voice.

These drugs may be taken orally, via injections, or via creams and gels. Dosages taken by athletes are extremely high, and generally well over one hundred times greater than the suggested dosages.

Usually athletes consume two different kinds of the drug simultaneously to get enhanced results, starting from lesser dosages and increasing these for twelve weeks following which they decrease them back to a lesser level. This is supposed to help the body become use to the drugs.

Disclaimer: The anabolic steroids information provided in this editorial is for instructive and amusement purposes only. This article does not, in any way, disregard the prohibited position and/or consumption of anabolic steroids for purposes other than those accepted by the FDA or other officially recognized authoritarian bodies.
